VIDEO REFLECTION 5

I want to show you a video about someone from my hometown. She is a native person of Bucak and she has a different accent. I would like to show this because it is really funny. I am from Bucak, too; but I don’t have accent like hers . Some of which she said are not understandable, so I will explain what she said.

She is talking to an interviewer, and telling what she experienced. According to her said, her son bought bread from a baker’s. They didn’t eat it at that night, and the next day when the woman took a piece to eat, she saw the bug. She tells this situation by saying “ötem beri geldi”. I think this means “I’m nauseated by the image of that bread.” Then, she took that bread to the baker’s. When she came home, her daughter asked her why she took the bread to the baker’s. They called the municipal police. When they went the baker’s, they saw that the workers of the baker’s wear special uniforms, and everything was okay. However, the woman claims that they didn’t wear something special and while one of the workers’ hair was long when she went alone, it is cut now. Then, she left the municipal police there, came home.
Besides, I think the woman’s gestures also funny. She says when she first went to the baker’s that “He looked at me, I looked at him; he looked at me, I looked at him.” While saying this, she is rolling her eyes. She is very sympathetic.
In my hometown, not everyone talks like this. I just want to show her accent. I hope you enjoyed while watching:)

VIDEO REFLECTION 4

This Tv programme is Master Chef Türkiye. In the video, there are 3 people. One of them is chef, the blonde woman is speaker and the younger man is the competitor. I watched this competition programme last year. My sister loves this kind of programme, and I loved them thanks to her. I chose this video because she recommended it.

While the competitor, Tuğsan, was making meal, the chef, Batuhan, came to control. Tuğsan tasted the meal with a wooden spoon, but chef was angry with that behaviour and hit the spoon. The spoon jumped to the speaker’s hand. Tuğsan was very surprised, so did the other competitors. However, he didn’t react negatively. He was calm, and kept making his meal. Yet, Batuhan was not satisfied with the meal, and asked Tuğsan what to do next. Tuğsan said he would evaporate a little. In Turkish, evaporate means in that speech “uçurmak”. Batuhan said “There is no need you to evaporate, I will” and then took the saucepan, spoilt it to the kitchen sink.

Everybody was surprised, absolutely. It was expected that Tuğsan would fail, but he didn’t. It is obvious that he is successful despite his unluckiness.
In my opinion, it was very rude for chef to behave the competitor like that. Maybe, I think this is rude because I like the competitor; but there is no need to react like that. In the final, Tuğsan was the fourth of the competition. Moreover, he hasn’t extra instruction for cooking; he is a genetic engineer, actually. It is very nice for him to win fourth degree of such a different competition. I really appreciate him.

VIDEO REFLECTION 3

It’s raining outside, and I am in front of the laptop. I was thinking about what to write about. While listening the sound of the rain, I realized that I was about to sleep.  Then, I said myself “Why don’t I choose this topic?”
I searched “sound of rain” on YouTube. There are a lot of videos about rain. At first, the songs about the rain came out, and then I found this video:

When I listen to this kind of sounds, like bird or rain sound, I feel myself really relaxed. It gives some kind of sensation like you are in safe, happy and satisfied. Also, I think this kind of sounds affect the success. I have never tried to listen to the sound of rain while studying, but I am listening now and it feels really good. When you heard the thunder, you feel as if you are in the middle of rain, raindrops are falling to your face. In this video, do you smell the rain while listening? I am closing my eyes and I feel myself in a wood, there are birds whose voices I hear, and I smell the wet ground.

While studying or when you want to listen to the sound of rain, I can recommend you a website. I found this website while I was searching for a relaxing sound. I hope you feel like as relaxed as I do.

VIDEO REFLECTION 2

Pepee is a cartoon on the channel TRT. My little sister always watches Pepee. There are a lot of videos at my laptop about Pepee because my little sister asks me to download it.

Children love this cartoon. Its script is written by Ayşe Şule Bilgiç and its musics made by Ali Tufan KIRAÇ. It is a cartoon whose main character has speaking problems, that’s why his name is “Pepee”. He is a boy who is 4. In the following episodes, he deals with his speaking problems. Besides, there are friends of Pepee in the cartoon. Their name are Zulu and Şila.

When Pepee is shown on television, there wasn’t Pepee’s family. Then, programme has been renewed and there are Pepee’s grandparents, parents and sister Bebe. In this cartoon Pepee’s life is shown and children learn a lot of things from his life. For example, there are instructional videos, and I chose one of them my sister’s loved much.

In this video, Pepee and his friend Şila make a kind of folk dance “halay”. In the video Şuşu (voice of Ayşe Şule Bilgiç) sings a song, Pepee and Şila dance. When my little sister was watching it, she began to dance. After watching a few times, I realized that she learned to dance “halay”. In  my opinion Pepee is a really informative and enjoyable cartoon.

JOURNAL 5

COMING BACK HOME
First semester is over and we have come our homes. In the first day I came home, I didn’t feel anything because I was so tired. However, the second day, I realized that I missed even my bed, television and our kitchen.
I want to talk about my coming back to Bucak. The previous day of the travel was my friend Emel’s birthday. There were just two of us in the dormitory, Emel and me. We watched a film, had a lot of snack and sang songs. It was very funny. The next day we would travel, but we didn’t want to sleep, so we sat our bed and began to talk. We talked so much that we couldn’t realize what the time is. Accordingly, we couldn’t sleep enough.
At travel day, we called for a taxi. We were three and we had four big suitcases. Taxi driver said us “you have suitcases bigger than you, heavier than us”. He was right, they were really heavy:)
While at bus, I thought some time. I thought about my first coming to METU, meeting friends, learning new places… It passed so fast that I remember the first day at METU as if it was yesterday. The days are passing quickly, and I can’t feel it. Now, I am at home for three days, but I missed my friends. I think when the time going back Ankara, I will miss my family again.
I know I mentioned a lot of things, but I wanted to say so much that I couldn’t help myself from talking about these. I hope you aren’t bored of reading. This is my fifth journal and I thought it can be like a speech. I hope you enjoyed it:)

JOURNAL 4

In reading-writing lesson, our teacher wanted us to write an essay about watching film. I would like to share my essay with you because this essay is one of my initial essays since I came METU and I believe it is important in terms of my experiments in writing essays. I hope you enjoy it:))

LET’S WATCH A MOVIE
When we are bored, we need some leisure activities. These can be swimming, going hiking or playing chess. When we are tired of study, for example, these activities are really good for us. Most of us generally choose to watch movies at those times. It can be at home or at the movie theatre. There are some similarities and also differences between them.
The initial similarity of home watching and watching at the cinema is the opportunity of eating-drinking things. You can eat snacks while watching a movie. Food isn’t forbidden in both places. In addition, both place needs spending money. You have to buy a ticket to go in the movie at the cinema, and when you want to watch a movie at home, you need to buy a DVD. Thirdly, nowadays, DVDs give the opportunity to have sound effects like at the cinema, so you can hear the voices of movie as if you were at the cinema.
There are some differences between watching a movie at home or at the cinema. Firstly, when you are watching at home, you can take a break anytime you want. You pause when you go for doorbell or you want to go to the toilet, but it isn’t possible at the cinema. The movie is shown with a certain break, and you can’t pause the film for your wills. Secondly, one of the important differences is large screen. Some people choose to go to the cinema just for its silver screen. At home, you don’t have this opportunity. You can see the tiny details at the cinema thanks to its huge screen, but at home this can’t be possible. Moreover, you can watch the movie at home alone while there are a lot of people around you at the cinema. In addition to this, you can’t sit someone else’s place at the cinema, but at home, you can sit wherever you wish.
In conclusion, there are lots of similarities and differences between watching movies at home or at the cinema. There are similarities in eating-drinking things, spending money, and sound opportunity. And the differences are breaks, screen, and the environment. Whichever you choose –watching at the cinema or home watching- both of them are really enjoyable way of spending your leisure time.

JOURNAL 3

THE HISTORY OF FACEBOOK
Two weeks ago, I watched the film “The Social Network” with my friend. Then I decided to choose ‘the history of Facebook’ as my topic for my journal. At first, the film was a little confusing, so I slept in the second part of it. In the following day, we began to watch it again, but this time I watched it carefully and didn’t sleep.
We all know “Facebook” and use actively. At the first time I began to use Facebook, I wondered who founded it. However, I didn’t make any attempt to learn this until watching the film “The Social Network”. I realized that there were a lot of steps to today’s Facebook.

The first thing I learned from the film is that Facebook is the second website founded by Mark Zuckerburg. Facemash which Zuckerburg founded first is a website that includes pictures and information about the students of Harvard University. Because Zuckerburg took this information without management’s permission and broadcasted it, the website is closed by the management. After this event, Zuckerburg left the university for a year and created a website including photos, personal information and interests of users. With the support of his roommates, Zuckerburg began to encode “Facebook” which was “The Facebook” first.

Zuckerburg finished encoding Facebook in 2004 and opened it for use just for the students of Harvard University, but in a short time Facebook was heard from Boston to high schools and companies. After this event, Zuckerburg decided to open Facebook usage for everyone. In 2006, Facebook announced that everyone (+13) with an e-mail address can sign up for “Facebook”.

While creating Facebook, Mark Zuckerburg wasn’t alone. His roommates Andrew MCCOLLUM and Eduardo SAVERIN helped him during Facebook’s installation stage. Today, Mark Zuckerburg is working as Facebook’s founder and CEO, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes are working as assistants of founder, Sheryl Sandberg is working as COO, and Marc Samwer is working as inventor.
Facebook is free for users and its revenue comes from banner and sponsor links. In 2007, Facebook let the adverts and thanks to this application users can give advertisements free of charge. This success of Facebook was heard from the companies and they wanted to purchase Facebook; however Mark Zuckerburg was determined not to sell it. In my opinion, maybe Facebook’s success comes from Zuckerburg’s determination.
